In accordance with the policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain name is registered with must be valid and up to date all the time. Moreover, this information is freely available on WHOIS sites and while this may be okay for companies, it may not be very convenient for individuals, because anybody can view their names and their personal email and postal addresses, especially in times when identity theft is not that unusual. That is why domain name registrars have introduced a service that conceals the details of their clients without editing them. The service is referred to as ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. In case it’s activated, people will see the details of the registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS enquiry. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic domain name extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your details with some country-code extensions.

ID Protection in Shared Hosting

If you’ve ordered a shared hosting plan from our company and you have registered one or more domain names under your account, you’ll be able to enable ID Protection for any of them without any effort and to keep your personal data secure. Of course, this will be possible only with the TLD extensions that support this option. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you will find an “ID Protect” logo to the right of each of your domain names. Its colour will let you know whether a domain name is ID-protected or not and in the second case, you can add ID Protection with just a couple of clicks of the mouse. In this way, you can shield your private data even if you have not activated the ID Protection service during the hosting account activation procedure. You’ll be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any of your domain names just as easily.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you choose to order a semi-dedicated server package from our company, you will be able to add ID Protection to any of your domains by completing a couple of easy steps. If you register or transfer a domain name during the account activation process, you can get the service along with the domain name. In case you skip this step and you change your mind later, you can add the ID Protection service from the Hepsia hosting Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you can manage the whole semi-dedicated server account. This is also the place where you can turn on the ID Protection for all other domains that you register with our company after the signup process. Renewing or removing the service is just as simple and will require just a couple of clicks.
